President, Bergen County’s United Way
Tom Toronto has 28 years of experience working for local United Ways in Bergen, Burlington and Hudson counties in New Jersey.
He serves as Chairman of the NJ 2-1-1 Partnership, driving implementation of the 2-1-1 helpline on behalf of New Jersey’s local United Ways and New Jersey State Government.
Tom is a member of the Partnership for New Jersey and a graduate of the organization’s Leadership New Jersey program, the NJ Advocacy Network to End Homelessness, Bergen Community College Institute for Non Profit Leadership Advisory Board, Bergen County Homeless Trust Fund Advisory Board, and the Bergen County Workforce Investment Board. He was recently asked to Chair the Task Force to Combine Bergen County's WIB and Economic Development Commission. He Chaired the Bergen County 10 Year Plan to End Homelessness and Co - Chairs the Bergen County Sheriff’s Prisoner Reentry Task Force.
Also active in his local community, Tom served on the Leonia governing body, is past treasurer of the Leonia Library Board of Trustees and was chairman of the town’s Planning Board.
Tom received his B.A. degree from Montclair State University and an M.A. from Columbia University.
